A fantastic event not to be missed giving insight into the culture of this small island. An extremely lively and colorful celebration of the freedom gained further to slavery being abolished on 1st August 1834. What started as an informal annual festival officially became Antigua Carnival in 1957. Since then the festival has developed into 10 days of music, dance and revellery, with street marches, jump-ups and formal evening shows – calypso, pan, and Carnival Queen pageants – always around the last week in July the first week in August. In 2013, the festival is from July 27th - August 6th.
Come and enjoy local talent of all ages in shows, competions and parades. As a visitor you can observe from the side lines or put on something comfortable and come "jump up" with the locals.
